Deborah Barnes, President, Founder
As a flight attendant for many years both in the US and abroad, I was influenced by so much. I lived in numerous countries for 14 years ending up the longest in the UAE, where I started an interior design company and interior plantscapes company for major hotels as well as tailor shops.
After returning to Santa Barbara to raise my daughter, I was a sought after event coordinator and brought in amazing companies to use our many hotels and clubs for their destination location events. I also became politically active for water rights and for blue collar workers. I never lost a campaign.
I have worked hard and owned several businesses on State Street and in our community. As a landscape designer of several years, my work was rained out for several months one winter. Freedom, a homeless Veteran died during these freezing storms, one of 19 deaths that winter alone and I was moved to take action. From this point on I went into full time service to our homeless community and never looked back.
Several of us have been the voice for the voiceless before our City Council and County Board of Supervisors as well as to the media. This is so badly needed to keep homeless issues before the public. Our homeless crisis is big enough to be a small city and needs a voice and opportunity but also compassion and action to help change lives. That is what I am all about.
I am presently writing about my time serving and the people I have met. Their stories deserve to be told.
